The Ulu Padas Water Supply Scheme (SBAUP) is a strategic water infrastructure initiative developed to address long-standing water shortages across Sabah’s west coast, including Kota Kinabalu and surrounding districts.
Designed as a complementary “bolt-on project” to the Ulu Padas Hydroelectric Project (UPHEP), it leverages the same dam and water catchment system to provide a highly efficient and cost-effective solution for Sabah’s growing water demands.
Awarded by the Sabah State Water Department (JANS), the RM5.98 billion Phase 1 contract entails the construction of a water treatment plant with a capacity of 350 MLD in Beaufort district with water pipelines spanning an estimated length of 200 km in the west coast of Sabah from Sipitang to Kota Kinabalu.

Phase 1 of the project was awarded by the Sabah State Water Department (JANS) with a contract value of RM5.98 billion.
Once completed by end 2029, the 42-month project will:

Electrical and Mechanical (E&M) installation, including the SCADA system
Testing, commissioning of the water supply system and project handover
